Kindergarten Admissions

Parents are invited to visit the Village School and observe classes without children.  This is an essential first step in the admissions process.  We want you to become acquainted with the school, understand the kind of education we provide, and decide if it might be a good match for your child.  Please call the school to schedule an visit.

Following this visit, please schedule a time for your child to visit the school.  Depending on the age of your child, and his or her comfort level, he or she may stay the whole morning and leave after lunch.

On the same day, you can meet with the Director of the School. This is an opportunity to ask questions about the class and the school, find out about curriculum, and to tell us about your child.  We’ll inform you about school culture and parent responsibilities.  We’ll also look together at whether your child is developmentally ready for kindergarten, or could benefit from another year of preschool and play.

After your child visits the school, you can submit an application.  A non-refundable fee of $40 is due at the time of the application.

As part of the application, please fill out and sign our Authorization for Release of School Records form and give it to your child’s current school.  In addition, please give the Student Evaluation form to your child’s current teacher or preschool provider and ask her/him to send it in separately.  You may also ask a friend or family member to fill out and send in the optional personal reference form.

Your child may also be invited to visit again with his/her potential teacher.

Each application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee.  The Admissions Committee carefully and thoroughly evaluates if the school is a good fit for your family and child.  We also want to make sure that we can serve your child well.  In addition, we seek to balance each class by age and gender and look for diversity within the student body.

The Village School has no testing or evaluation services.  Should additional information about your child be required, we will ask you to provide this at your own expense.

The Village School does not have support services for children with special needs.

If your child is accepted into the school, you will receive a letter of acceptance and a Registration and Enrollment Contract.  The return of the signed contract along with the required deposit, within 14 days, indicates that you have accepted the placement offered for your child at the Village School.  Enrollment becomes official only after the signed contract and deposit have been received by the school.  A current physical and immunization record is required for kindergarten enrollment.

The Village School is a 501 (c) (3) non profit corporation, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin in any of its school administered policies or programs.
